Is there anyone out there who really knows what it’s list to have a career as a forensic science tech. I need advice on how to prepare for it

You will need to be good in math, or at least study hard at it. the larger part of your career will involve pretty in-depth math.
probably anthropology, sociology, and psychology, along with a pile of medical, mechanical, and chemical classes.
make sure to minor in something like accounting, or business. The market is flooded with too many fans of Grissom and H. Caine.

Four schools you might want to take a look at are: Michigan State, Boston University, Syracuse, and George Washington University. All offer a masters degree in forensic science.

I live in Chicago, IL. I’m about to get my G.E.D and I want to major in Forensic Anthropology, however, I’m not sure which school has courses that will support this field. I do know that before I start my major courses I have to take core (general) courses like basic Science, Social Studies, Math etc. I just want to be prepared before I do anything so that when the time comes I won’t be running around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to figure out what to do. I would rather that the colleges be in Chicago because I really don’t have a form of transportation other than public. Thanks a whole lot!

Have you chosen a college? Make an appointment with an advisor at your chosen college (or potential colleges if you haven’t chosen one) and he/she will tell you everything you need to know about prerequisites and core classes.

You will probably need to choose from biology, chemistry, physics. Most schools do not have a major called Forensic Science. If you think about CSI, they use lots of different specialties.

You should check with your local police department. They sometimes offer what is called a “Police Explorers program” (or a similar name) for high school students who are considering a career in law enforcement or Forensic Science. As long as you don’t have a felony on your record, get decent grades, they will allow you in. You get to learn about bombs, crime scenes, forensic science, and other law enforcement/forensic science stuff.
From what I’ve heard its a common program through-out US police departments. I currently joined mine =)

The difficulty in finding this degree offering is that forensics is a use of science, not a branch of science. The top positions in forensic science are held by physicians (pathologists), dentists, psychologists (Ph.D.) and similar professionals.

As a tour guide at University of Central Florida, I happen to know that our school here in Orlando, Florida has the largest of only seven accredited programs in forensic science in the nation. Additionally, our Chemistry department is home to the National Center for Forensic Sciences.
