Job opportunity for people with a degree in Forensic Science?

Question by shadowafs8: Job opportunity for people with a degree in Forensic Science?
I’m planning to go for a masters in Forensic Science (M.S.), however, I’m concerned about how often they hire people for that position. I’ve tried researching it, but I could not find anything much on it. Does anybody happen to know how often they hire people to examine evidence with that degree, specifically in NY or states very close to it?

Answer by ForensicSteve
I think you might be mistaking education for experience. People will not employ you just because you have a degree in Forensic Science. Once you have years of experience working in Forensics, someone may ask you for your professional opinion about a particular piece of evidence.

Forensics is a very diverse subject. There are rarely right or wrong answers. The opinions which forensic experts give in court will come from their experience, not from their qualifications.

I do not want to discourage you from getting a masters in Forensic Science. It would be a very interesting degree and could help you get a job in a forensic related field but you will not be asked to examine evidence because you have a qualification.

Good luck.
