there is a near infinite number of answers here-

Anthropology studies how our ancestors coped with changing climates, interrelations with other species their environment, religion, interpersonal disputes…the list is literally endless.

One good example you can find at http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/06/070621140809.htm

wherein they discuss why certain people are more suseptible to HIV

and http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/09/090927145354.htm

helps us to understand the source of the virus, while

http://eprints.ucl.ac.uk/127801/

seems to offer a cure for this current event.

You will need to be good in math, or at least study hard at it. the larger part of your career will involve pretty in-depth math.
probably anthropology, sociology, and psychology, along with a pile of medical, mechanical, and chemical classes.
make sure to minor in something like accounting, or business. The market is flooded with too many fans of Grissom and H. Caine.

What are the typical requirements one has to take to attend graduate school in some field of Forensic Science?

Question by Woan: What are the typical requirements one has to take to attend graduate school in some field of Forensic Science?
I’m getting my degree in molecular biology, so a focus on DNA work. Will most graduate schools call it good if one gets their undergraduate degree in the physical or life sciences? Such as physics, chemistry, biochemistry, biology, molecular biology, microbiology…etc. Or are there certain class requirements that must be taken in order to get accepted into their school? (I don’t think it’s like med school where you MUST take certain classes in order to get accepted.)

You are doing great. Molecular biology is the it needed for DNA work. Most forensic graduate programs are happy with any biology or chemistry. Some of this programs are getting to be very selective because of high demand so a highly regarded undergraduate is to your advantage. Some labs will probably hire you even without the forensic degree and train you into it since the science base is what they need.

Find out which school you are most interested in and check out their program. They will be more specific about what they want. Here is a source of colleges for forensic degrees.

What are some very good colleges that offer a high degree in Forensic Science?

Question by MelindaCBS: What are some very good colleges that offer a high degree in Forensic Science?
I really wanted to go to MIT, but they don’t offer a direct degree in Forensic Science. I am a very intelligent student and could probably make it into MIT, but they don’t offer that exact degree.

My second choice is “Johns Hopkins” which looks good. Does Johns Hopkins offer a degree in Forensic Science?

If not, what are some other college choices? Thanks!
What is the John’s Hopkins official website? I checked on several websites and can’t find the things I need. This is all screwed up!♥

In order to work as a forensic scientist, you need to get your bachelors degree in a lab science, such as biology, chemistry, biochem, or microbiology, from a good university. You’ll then go on to get your masters degree, either in biology, chemistry, biochem, microbio, or forensic science. Some lab workers – the head of the lab, usually – will have PhDs.

You may well be able to get a forensic science job right out of your bachelors degree program, especially if you do co-ops/internships in forensic science while you study. But most people have masters degrees, and you’ll need the MS if you want to get promoted.

You don’t need to find a uni that specialises in forensic science. In fact, it’s best if you don’t major in forensic science, specifically, for your bachelors degree. First, most employers in the field want you to have majored in bio, chem, microbio or biochem. Second, if you did change your mind after graduation – even 20 years after graduation (say, you got burnt out in that high stress job), you’d be able to find other science work if you have a more general science degree.

Don’t rule out a school because they don’t offer a forensic science major, specifically. If a school offers forensic science, I’d suggest you take it as a minor, rather than your major. But definitely do a co-op or internship in forensic science! That’ll really help you get a job in the field.
