Question by : what classes should you take to go to college for forensic science?

Nothing special it’s just a major in college. Take extra science classes for electives (those are more important than law enforcement since you want to be a scientist). Obviously try to get good grades but the grades you need depend on the school more than the major.

Have you chosen a college? Make an appointment with an advisor at your chosen college (or potential colleges if you haven’t chosen one) and he/she will tell you everything you need to know about prerequisites and core classes.
Good luck

well, you would probably need a 4 year degree.

But if you want a masters, then it would take around 2 years… your choice.

So probably 6 years (:

Do you have to major in Forensic Anthropology to be a Forensic Anthropologist or can you just take classes to?

Question by Cheyenne: Do you have to major in Forensic Anthropology to be a Forensic Anthropologist or can you just take classes to?
I want to become a forensic anthropologist when i grow up. the college that i may definetly be going to does not provide forensic anthropology as a major,Brigham Young University. my question is, do i have to be a forensic anthropology major in order to study and have a job as a forensic anthropologist or are there certain classes and majors i can take to be considered a forensic anthropologist?

Since you’re definitely not going to a school with a forensics major, I think you need to major in anthropology and take as many physical anth. classes as possible (as opposed to cultural). A minor in biology might also be helpful. Make sure you pick an advisor that is interested in physical anth and hopefully you’ll be able to intern with them. When you graduate pick a school where there is a forensics program. I think you will definitely need a PhD. This is just my opinion though, I think your best bet is to talk to an advisor at school. Their job is to get you on the right track! :)

Okay, I’ve got my GCSE’s through, and I have been refused a place in a biology a level class, even though my results were pretty good. I’ve been accepted into maths and chemistry though..but can I still get into doing a forensic anthropology degree if I don’t have a biology a level?

What are the typical requirements one has to take to attend graduate school in some field of Forensic Science?

Question by Woan: What are the typical requirements one has to take to attend graduate school in some field of Forensic Science?
I’m getting my degree in molecular biology, so a focus on DNA work. Will most graduate schools call it good if one gets their undergraduate degree in the physical or life sciences? Such as physics, chemistry, biochemistry, biology, molecular biology, microbiology…etc. Or are there certain class requirements that must be taken in order to get accepted into their school? (I don’t think it’s like med school where you MUST take certain classes in order to get accepted.)

You are doing great. Molecular biology is the it needed for DNA work. Most forensic graduate programs are happy with any biology or chemistry. Some of this programs are getting to be very selective because of high demand so a highly regarded undergraduate is to your advantage. Some labs will probably hire you even without the forensic degree and train you into it since the science base is what they need.

Find out which school you are most interested in and check out their program. They will be more specific about what they want. Here is a source of colleges for forensic degrees.

Question by Juan G.: If I obtain a B.S. degree in Forensic science, can I still take the MCAT to try and get into medical school?
They are two careers that I am really considering. I live close to UCF, which is supposedly a good school for Forensic science, but I would still love to become a doctor one day. Since the prerequisites for med-school are mostly science courses, I think I would meet them with a degree in Forensic science. But I’m not sure. Plz help.

Best answer:

Answer by Bill
Sure. You just need the usual pre med subjects – which a degree in forensic science will almost certainly have.

Thanks
Bill
